Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope
Price Chopper & Market 32 joins in the national celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and its 2021 theme of Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope. The theme invites us to celebrate Hispanic and Latino heritage and to reflect on how great our tomorrow can be if we hold onto our resilience and hope. It encourages us to reflect on all of the contributions Hispanics have made in the past, and will continue to make in the future. It is also a reminder that we are stronger together.
Heritage – we see the richness and vibrancy of Hispanic and Latino heritage in many aspects of our lives. Our fashion, music, food, politics, and religion are in many ways touched and influenced by Hispanic and Latino peoples of yesterday and today. Hailing from near and far, including the lands of Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, Columbia, Panama, Venezuela, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ecuador, Brazil, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and here in Puerto Rico, to name a few, Hispanic and Latino people span the globe. Each region bringing with them distinct histories, cultures and values, but together creating a mosaic of color, flavor, sights and sounds.
Hope – In learning of and valuing the harrowing stories of many Hispanic and Latino individuals, one commonality is the hope that families, communities and leaders held for their future generations. Whether by leading political revolutions, creating community advocacy organizations, fleeing unsafe lands, serving in the armed forces, or educating others through art, Hispanic and Latino people have a long standing history of using hope to fuel their pursuits and guide their way.
