I would like to nominate Joelle Teller Myers and her family. This wonderful woman very recently lost her home to a fire. As devastating as this event must be for her, she has kept an ever-positive attitude about it. I am not sure many of us would be able to do the same. She has focused on the fact that everyone was kept safe from harm and has been grateful to any friends for their help, even if they are just words of encouragement. Please consider Joelle and her family for this contest, I am sure she could use a weekend getaway!

I would like to nominate Kristi Beauth-Schilling for this contest. Kristi
is a good person. Kristi lost her husband from death. That mean she was left taken care of their three loveable children. Kristi has gone to school, had/have a job while kids are in school. Just done so much for her children and keep going and going even when she can’t. Kristi does so much and gets nothing in return. She will help anyone else out before herself. She is so tired all the time from doing so much. Then it’s time to get up and do it again. She loves her children and will do anything for them. I believe Kristi deserve this trip with her children. They haven’t gone nor done anything in years. To win the $100 in food will take a lot off her mind and make it much easier for her and her children. Please consider Kristi and her children for this contest.

  3. I would like to nominate my sister, Karen Decoteau. She recently took legal custody of her two grandchildren ages 10 and 15, and is raising them on her own. Her daughter died two years ago from breast cancer, and a few months ago, the childrens father committed suicide. This has been an extremely trying time for the family and Lake Placid has always been a favorite get away spot. It would be nice to give them some smiles!

I would like to nominate Missy and Dave Tarjick of Cheshire, MA. They have 3 birth children, ages 14, 16, and 18. They also have 3 adopted special needs children, 7, 8 and 10. Missy has a part-time job with the Helen Berube Teen Parent program and graduated in May from Berkshire Community College. Dave is a supervisor for Interstate Brands and is also a part-time police officer for the Town of Cheshire. Both Missy and Dave are active with local youth sports programs and have very busy schedules with all the children participating in local team sports. Missy also is a demonstrator for Tupperware. The 2 oldest children are honors students at Hoosac Valley High School and these same 2 also work part-time.

I know a family that could really use a little vacation. Mom and dad with 2 children. Mom use to have breast cancer a long time ago and was in the clear for a while. She got it back and its terminal cancer. They have been trying everything from all treatment options and medications. She was actually just in a clinical study in Boston but recently got kicked out due to the treatment not working anymore. She is now back in the area trying other options. It is terminal cancer so all this treatment is just to prolong her life. The reason I feel like this mom and dad need a vacation is because with everything they have been through(driving to boston every weekend, missing work and participating in all the sports that the kids are in) they need a break. This family mom and dad would do anything for anyone that needed anything. They are very caring and thoughtful. This mom I have knowen for years is the most positive person I know. She is fighting with everything she has and still has a smile on her face everyday for herself her family and her friends. She recently has lost her mother also due to cancer. I really think this mom and dad deserve this, a time without there kids(they love their kids and do everything for them) but need a time to themselves which they never get. Even though this mom has a smile on her face everyday overtime you can see the stress that cancer can cause a family, making everyone on edge sometimes just because they are all scared of the future. I would love to see this mom and dad go away somewhere to enjoy eachother before things get worst. Thanks.

My name is Anna and I am nominating my sister’s family (the Diederichs). My sister is a young stay-at-home mother of 7, going on 8 children. They reside in the Madrid, NY area and always shop at Price Chopper. My sister’s family has the sweetest, well-behaved children I have ever met. Her husband, Ronny, is a public school reading teacher. He works for many hours a week teaching students with reading disabilities and struggles. When he is home he tends to planning lessons for the next day. Their house is in the middle of home improvements constantly as they are trying to add more rooms for their growing family. They live in a very rural community and often have a difficult time making it to grocery shop with one vehicle in their family. My sister is dedicated to home schooling her children, which range in ages from 10 to 1. My sister cooks using organic and gluten-free foods, which she looks for in the Potsdam Price Chopper store. Thank you for considering this family for the weekend getaway as they could really use some time away.

She is a single mother of a very special needs 16 year old child, who has worked all her life to support the both of them after his father left when he was born. This young lady works at walmart trying to make ends meet, struggling week to week to pay the bills and trying to do things for her son. One of the most important to him is taking him to baseball practice and his games in the summer and watching him perform in the special olympics at his school. When she finally does get her vacation time she usually cannot afford to do anything much or go anywhere special. There are a lot of people out there that can use this, and this is one that deserves it.

My mom and step dad could really use a weekend away of rest. They have such huge giving hearts. They give of their time, their money and talents to family, friends and neighbors on a daily basis. My mom is always shopping at Price Chopper in the early morning hours, cooking meals all day long and either welcoming guests into her home with great meals or delivering meals to those in need. I am reminded of 2 Corinthians 9:7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. It would be wonderful to bless them in return.

I would like to nominate a very special Man and his family that have been through more than anyone should go through in a very short time. This is a person who is always there for everyone, helping out no matter what time of day it is, hardworking, loving, and very dedicated to his family. This Man and his family have suffered great losses this year, in July of this year his father (68) lost his battle to an illness, 5 weeks later his Mother who was fighting an illness in the hospital through it all lost her battle as well and passed. You could never imagine having to plan 2 funerals and dealing with that all in one summer. I would love to see him and his family be able to take some quality, relaxing time to enjoy themselves.

I would like to nominate a family that is well in need of a family weekend. In Sept the husband of 40 years old was diagnosed with leukemia. He spent 40 days in the hospital while his wife got up everyday got the kids ages 6&8 ready and to the bus for school. Then she would go spend the day with her husband, then head back home just after dinner to get the kids ready for bed homework done and do housework. Then off to bed do dhrcould do it again. The husband has come home from the hospital but is still in need of more chemist and isn’t expected to be back to work till after the holidays. Which would put him out of work for 4+months. The wife was a stay at home mom now she is trying to get a job yo help the family. Please help this family on a well needed vacation.

I’m not sure if we can nominate ourselves, but I’d like to. My husband and I could use a weekend away. We have been trying for 1 1/2 years to have a child & haven’t had a successful IVF cycle yet. We are in the midst of a cycle now & praying this time works!! We could use a stress free weekend away from chaos & work. I’m in law enforcement & work a lot protecting children & making sure they are safe. I investigate child abuse, Internet crimes, and child pornography cases, so to say the least, my job, on top of multiple IVF cycles, we have a lot of stress in our lives right now! We are 100% out of pocket for the IVF therefore that causes us to work even more in our venture to have a child!! Please consider us as we really could use a weekend away. Thank you.

  12. I would like to nominate my parents. I’m a single parent and I say not only to myself but to them thank you everyday. I wouldn’t know what I would do without them. Not only do they watch my daughter for me while I work. But, my mother every night feeds my daughter then cleans the kitchen, just to mess it up again by having a wonderful dinner ready on the table for me when I walk in about 2 hours after they already had there dinner. They do so much for my daughter and myself. They very much deserve some time to relax!

I would like to nominate a family that is really close to me, because they are my family. In particular I would like to nominate my parents. My mom last year went through a scare after finding she had tumors on her liver, which thankfully turned out not to be cancerous. It turns out they were liver adenomas. My dad works 40 plus hours per week. Both of them spent many of the last years raising my brother, sister, and I. This year my brother and sister were college bound, and my parents were looking foward for time to themselves, however that is not how things worked. In fact before my brother and sister even started college my parents found out that my younger cousin was placed in foster care. After finding that out, my parents became certified foster parents in order to take my cousin in. My parents always took my siblings and I trips to neat little places while we growing however never once took any sort of vacation for themselves. I really think that a trip to Lake Placid would be really great for them!

I would like to nominate my mother. Since my grandmother passed away 5 years ago my mother is still trying to settle everything from her estate as well as still keeping the rest of the family together. During all this my mother lost her job due to them closing their doors & at the same time was diagnosed PAD. Peripheral artery disease. She would really use a get away to destress the things in life.

I would like to nominate my mother in law and her husband. They were there for me and my family some years ago when I lost my job, tore a tendon in my foot, needed surgery, needed physical therapy and needed encouragement to keep pushing forward. They were there to help in faith and with finances at a time my family needed to help the most. They are fantastic christian people that I know I couldn’t begin to pay back for everything they have done for us but also know they would truly enjoy a two night stay away together for a time of refreshing.

I would like to nominate Earl McDermott and family for this weekend getaway! They had a rough start to 2012, he was laid off and they were burning through their savings quickly with 3 kids. They got through it, and he found a great job, but he said something that really registered with me last week… he said “you know how in school, they ask you what your thankful for? And you say “my family” because you know that’s the right answer? Well this year is the first time i actually get it… I’ve always loved my family… but not knowing if this is the week that you can’t afford diapers or groceries really opened my eyes. Now I am TRULY thankful for what I have, and not the least bit concerned about what I don’t”. They are a great family, and with the financial restraints they are keeping the holidays very small this year. This weekend trip would be the perfect getaway so they can spend some quality time together and have a little holiday cheer!
