Our Favorite April Fools Pranks Over The Years

April Fools’ Day is one of our favorite days of the year. We’ve been celebrating it on social media for a decade! Since we’re in the middle of unprecedented times in our world, rather than prank our audience we decided to revisit some of our previous pranks.

Have a look back at some of our favorites. We hope it brings a smile to your face on this April Fools’ Day.

Be well, and remember, we’re all in this together!

2013: Vintage Teammate Uniforms

In 2013 we brought about feelings of nostalgia when we unveiled our new, but also old, teammate uniforms! These stylish fits made us look like we just stepped out of a time machine arriving from the 80s, and your genuine concern for our younger teammates wearing them was amazing. We still think they’re kinda cool!

2014: We’re No Longer Accepting Pennies

One year later, we put out a message on our Facebook explaining that we were no longer accepting pennies. No one wants to carry around all that change! Of course, this was never going to be true, but either way it was one of our favorite pranks!

2018: Limited Edition PICS Ice Cream Flavors

Burnt Dinner Roll PICS Ice Cream? Only available for a limited time! The excitement over this mouthwatering flavor was overwhelming. Just kidding! In 2018, we lined up our prank with Easter, introducing other fake PICS Ice Cream flavors like Ham & Pineapple and Asparagus & Hollandaise. Yum!

2019: How to Make Ice Video

Last year, we returned with a satirical version of one our Facebook recipe videos. We wanted to offer up a video of something that obviously doesn’t require a recipe, like ice, and take it to excessive levels of detail. We think it turned out nicely! Check it out here

Happy April Fools’ Day!

Brighten Up With Our Floral Department!

Plants are essential to the world we live in. It’s been proven that plants and nature help us maintain a positive mood. They’ve been known to relieve stress and create a calming atmosphere. Whether they’re prettying up a home office or bringing your kitchen space to life, plants can play an important role in brightening up everyday life!

The relaxing aura of ornamental plants is great for a work environment, as they allow for sharper focus and more productivity when compared to an environment devoid of these influences. Working around flowers and plants can lead to a more efficient performance completed with greater accuracy.

Not only can ornamental plants lead to better workers, they can also increase energy and are great for a dose of natural endurance. When people feel livelier, their mood and performance will be elevated. With this improved state of mind, the task at hand receives stronger energy and greater thought, which can create a higher-quality finished product.

Along with their ability to increase one’s mood, plants are also aesthetically pleasing. We love to light up the indoors with flowers! Items such as fresh bouquets, roses, daises, poms, carnations, gerbera daisies, and lilies are some of our favorites. They’re perfect for brightening up any countertop or table space. If you’re working from home during this time, we suggest some yellow daisies on your newly designated work desk!

Plants can help us see the brighter side. Our Floral Department is a big believer in this! Grab some flowers next time you stop in to see us, and check out our fresh Pinterest board Pinterest board for some flower-y inspiration.

It’s maple sugaring season in the Northeast, and we’re all amped up for local maple.

Today’s lesson: Maple Syrup Beyond the Stack of Pancakes!

Each winter as the weather starts to warm up, maple trees in our region produce sweet sap that contains a small amount of sugar and a large amount of water. By boiling off the water from sap, a 100% pure sugar substance is created: maple syrup. The almighty nectar of the maple tree!

We live in one of the only regions in the world with the ideal climate for maple agriculture, and we’re proud to partner with a wide variety of local maple farmers and producers here in the Northeast, who are currently hard at work in the midst of this year’s maple sugaring season.

A lot of folks love pouring maple syrup on their pancakes and waffles, which is certainly delicious, but maple has so much more to offer. Maple syrup is a versatile ingredient and can be used in baked goods, savory dinner entrées and more!

Bring maple syrup to life beyond your pancakes by…

Stirring it into your morning (or afternoon, or evening) coffee: Maple syrup is a 100% pure and natural sweetener: it’ll add a delicious flavor to your cup of coffee.

Pouring it over ice cream: Take a bowl of your favorite ice cream (we like vanilla the best) and drizzle some maple syrup over it, with a blanket of whipped cream: this is what dreams are made of. Our New Hampshire pals at Ben’s Sugar Shack are big fans of this treat.

Making maple garlic salmon: Mix maple syrup with minced garlic and a pinch of salt and glaze salmon with it. It’s a game changer.

Making maple mustard: Chances are you’ve had honey mustard more than once in your life. Maple mustard is a similar (but incredible) spin on the classic yellow condiment. Just whisk a bit of maple syrup into some Dijon mustard and you’ve got yourself a new favorite salad dressing, sandwich spread and more. Sweet.

Making salted maple pie: This one takes a little effort, but the results will have you shedding tears of joy. Vermont’s famous Butternut Mountain Farm offers this awesome recipe that’ll satisfy your sweet tooth and your savory tooth.

There you have it: maple syrup doesn’t have to live exclusively in breakfast land. Looking for more maple-spiration? Check out our home.grown. maple Pinterest board for a collection of recipes from our local maple partners!

Green Beer on St. Patrick’s Day: What’s the Story?

Two of the most popular associations with St. Patrick’s Day are beer and the color green. People love to enjoy their favorite brews while celebrating in festive green attire. It’s all well-known tradition. However, what’s perhaps lesser known is the combination of the two that is becoming a St. Patrick’s Day hit!

Green beer is a fun option for some St. Patrick’s Day creativity and Americans have latched on to the idea. It’s super easy to make, and anyone can do it at home. Simply crack open a light-colored beer and add a drop of green food coloring. It doesn’t change the flavor or any of the beer’s characteristics, only its color.

Surprisingly, the idea of colored beer originated a while back. It is said that in 1914, coroner’s physician and eye surgeon Dr. Thomas Curtain first colored beer for a St. Patrick’s Day party at the Schnerer Club of Morrisania in the Bronx in 1914.

Today, the idea lives on, even beyond St. Patrick’s Day. Green Beer Day began at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Participants dye their beer green and commonly begin festivities as early as 5 AM. It’s celebrated annually on the Thursday before Spring Break.

When it comes to choosing the right beer, light-colored brews are best for getting the strongest green coloring. However, if you play around with a darker beer you will see an interesting effect. Stouts and dark beers are too dark to show off much of a green hue, but the head will take on the green coloring and turn the foam green: although it may not last long it’s cool to try.

If you haven’t jumped on the green beer wagon yet, give it a try this year. Not only is it creative and fun, it’s an easy way to find more holiday spirit. Don’t forget to stop by your local store for all things St. Patrick’s Day: we have food coloring and beer, plus lots more festive foods like scratch-made Irish Soda Bread!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

21+. Please drink responsibly.
