Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
Line cupcake tins with liners. Mix the cake batter as directed on the box. Separate the batter equally into three separate bowls; approximately 2 cups each.
Add orange food coloring to one batter, add yellow food coloring to the second batter and leave one plain.
Using a muffin scoop or spoon, begin filling the cupcake liners with a layer of orange batter, followed by a layer of yellow batter and top with plain batter. Bake as directed.
Frost and decorate with candy corn.
Note: If you are using professional cake decorating food coloring you only need an 1/8 of a teaspoon to create a strong vivid color. If you are using the liquid food coloring you will need approximately 10 drops to create a strong bold color.
This recipe is meant to be a simple, fun recipe and the kids enjoy the layers as they bite into the cupcake. It's an easy way for them to help you with a classroom treat or just for fun!
